I wasn’t sure whether to call this a comedy or a drama, but decided it is intended to be more humorous than dramatic and it has some funny moments. Polished Grace (Jane Fonda) and bohemian Frankie (Lily Tomlin) are thrown for a loop when their husbands, long term best friends and law partners, reveal that they have been lovers for years and are leaving Grace and Frankie to marry each other. The two women, who have never much cared for one another, find themselves sharing a house and putting their lives back together, together. Rarely out and out funny, it is a warm story of female friendship and living life to the fullest as older women. Particularly as the seasons go on, there is a tendency for the story to be driven by people (spouses, siblings, friends and significant others) not being open and honest with each other, which gets annoying.
