What TV To Watch

Channel: Netflix

Black Mirror

Each episode is a stand-alone that shows a different dystopian future.  Each of the episodes explores an aspect of technology taken to a frightening/disturbing outcome.  Excellently done, compelling, thought provoking and very difficult to watch.  Not recommended for bingeing.

Sweet Tooth

Set in a post-apocalyptic world where a global pandemic wiped out much of humanity. At the same time, children started to be born with animal features. This series takes place about ten years later as the remaining people and the young hybrid children struggle to find their way in this new world. Often dark, but …

Sense8

Created by the Wachowskis and J Michael Strazynski, this series tells the story of eight people who were born at the same instant who can share thoughts and experiences.  Confusing at first, this series sucks you in.  Occasionally beautiful, often confusing, sometimes preachy – engrossing with characters you will grow to love. Luke Cage

Part of the Defenders group of mild super hero shows. Luke Cage  was introduced in Jessica Jones – his own series shines not only because of the good story but it was also such a treat to see so many phenomenal African American actors.  Starts slow.

The Witcher

This fantasy series follows three main characters – Geralt of Rivia – a Witcher, a kind of monster hunter; Cirilla, a young princess fleeing from her enemies; and Yennifer, a mage.  Well-made as the various story lines weave together over the years with parts of the story from very different times being told at the …

Orange is the New Black

The based-on-a-true story of an educated upper-class woman who goes to prison for transporting drug money.  Once this series leaves the “lead” character behind and begins fully exploring the stories of the other women in the prison, it shines.

Bodyguard

This taut thriller follows police officer David Budd, stunningly portrayed by Richard Madden. DS Budd is a war veteran, barely holding his life and psyche together, always on alert, suffering from PTSD. He is also very, very good at his job protecting dignitaries. When he distinguishes himself by thwarting a bombing, he is promoted to …

House of Cards – American

The evil Frank Underwood schemes his way into the US presidency.  More complicated and not as charming as the BBC original, the Netflix remake makes up for its darker take on political machinations by having the great Robin Wright play Frank’s equally scheming wife.
