This dramedy is about the disturbing flipside of the “boorish husband-long suffering wife” comedy trope (e.g. King of Queens, Mike & Molly etc). When Kevin (the husband) is in the room the lighting is bright, the filming sticks to the three-camera comedy trope and there is a laugh track; but the moment he leaves, the lights dim, the cameras move in close and we follow the wife in her frustration and desire to escape. I wish that it had worked better than it did. It was good but not great.
