Our entry to this story is Sarah Manning (Tatiana Maslany), a punk chic who witnesses someone step in front of a train – but that person looks exactly like Sarah.  Sarah soon meets Alison (Tatiana Maslany) and Cosima (Tatiana Maslany) and she learns that they are clones, part of an illegal experiment.  Together, along with …

The Fall

Gritty British police procedural with Gillian Anderson as a smart, unapologetically sexual, tough detective and Jamie Dornan in a creepy turn as a killer who is also a kind family man and grief counselor.  Stop at the end of Season 2 – Season 3 was an add-on that did not satisfy.

Broadchurch – British

British police procedural – David Tennant and Olivia Coleman as the detectives.  The interplay between the two detectives and the people in the small town where the murder occurs, the families affected by the murder and the story telling are all excellent. Don’t be fooled by the American remake.

The Wire

Widely regarded as the best tv show made, I’m sure it was true at the time.  Gritty, realistic, well-written and well-acted. It follows drug dealers in Baltimore and the police who try to keep the streets safe. This is the show that launched Idris Elba’s career.  It’s good, it really is, but it falls into …

Stranger Things

Popular horror series about kids in the 1980s that captured the zeitgeist.  I personally didn’t find it all that frightening, but I know others who found it truly creepy.  Season 2 was gory in places.  I enjoyed watching it at the time, but as soon as I was done couldn’t remember much about it.  The …

Star Trek: Picard

This series picks up with Jean Luc Picard 20 years after the events in the movie Star Trek: Nemesis. Picard left Starfleet under difficult circumstances and is living an unfulfilling retirement when a young woman who is being hunted by mysterious soldiers turns to him for help.  Intensely character driven, this is a much darker …

This HBO series, starring Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern and Nicole Kidman is a powerhouse show.  It tells the story of a group of women in affluent Monterey.  Witherspoon plays Madeline, a woman who needs to get involved in every problem she sees.  She takes poor newcomer Jane (Woodley) under her wing and introduces …
